Age of Shoguns Demo Scenario Download Page

This demo scenario spans the bloody period in Japan from 1430 to 1507 (half the length of the full scenario). It was in this period that battles, large and small, raged throughout Japan as warlords fought for the title of Shogun. Will you be able to battle and scheme your way into control of a Japanese Empire? LENGTH: medium to long. PLAYERS: single or multi.

Note: the demo does not allow armies

MAJOR CLANS

Otomo: Metal Working, Alphabet
Mori: Alphabet, Mathematics, Political Ambition
Miyoshi: Alphabet, Code of Laws, Pottery
Oda: Alphabet, Mysticism
Hojo: Metal Working, Pottery, Farming, Political Ambition
Tokugawa: Metal Working, Sword-Smithing

NOTE: when you start the scenario and choose a clan to play, look for clans with an asterisk (*) in front of their names. These are the major clans. For example: *Tokugawa. There are also 8 minor clans. Minor clans do not have an asterisk in front of their names, and are not meant for human players.

SCENARIO SETTINGS

-many of the technologies, units, and improvements are not available in this half-length demo. Although you can play beyond the 100-turn time limit, this is not recommended because the missing units will cause the game dynamics to skew and playability will suffer.

-this historically-based scenario is played on a map that roughly represents ancient Japan.

-no accelerated production

-no plagues

-no cultural conversions

-barbarians: restless

-length: 200 turns over a 77 year period

-Victory conditions: there are four paths to victory...
1) Kill all the Shoguns of all your enemies (multiple regicide). Unlike a conquest victory, you can achieve this without destroying all enemy cities.
2) Dominate Japan by having 61% or more of the territory and population.
3) Amass 100,000 culture points.
4) If you fail to achieve any of the above, you can still win if you have the highest score at the end of the game. Score is largely determined by population size and power.
NOTE: this scenario does not use victory points.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS

City growth, military power, and technical advancement are the most important factors in achieving a high score.

Japan is a crowded island. Be prepared for aggressive neighbors living right next door.

Diplomacy is extremely important when this game is played at Emperor level and above. Keep your enemies balanced in power and at each others throats. Avoid slaying enemy Shoguns and opening up vast territory that you are not prepared to populate or you may inadvertently double the size of an enemy.

Installation instructions: Be sure to download the demo that matches your version of Civilization. This demo has been tested on PC versions of "Civilization 3: Conquests" (patched version) and "Civilization 3 Complete". It is not compatible with other versions of the game. After you have installed the AOS demo, start Civilization and choose Civ-Content from the main menu. Look for the demo scenario entitled ! AOS 00 Demo Scenario.biq. If you do not see this scenario, it's possible that your installation of Civ 3 does not use the default path. We recommend that you uninstall everything and reinstall all the programs from scratch using the default installation folders. If you are experienced with creating folders and moving files, you can manually repair a faulty installation by checking two things. 1) The "Age of Shoguns Demo" folder should be inside Conquests\Conquests.  2) The "! AOS 00 Demo Scenario.biq" file should be inside Conquests\Scenarios.
